Indirect Procedures: A Musician's Guide to the Alexander Technique
My first book, Indirect Procedures: A Musician's Guide to the Alexander Technique, with a foreword by Sir Colin Davis, was published by Oxford University Press (OUP) in 1997. In the summer of 2013, OUP published a new edition, completely rewritten and redesigned. Click here to read an essay I wrote outlining the changes I've made to the book.
The German version, titled Alexander-Technik für Musiker, was published in the summer of 2002 by Bosse Verlag, an imprint of the venerable music publishers Bärenreiter Verlag.
The Japanese version was published by Shunjusha in 2009.
The book has been very well received. Would you like to read some reviews?
The book is in three parts, covering the basic principles of the Alexander Technique, its practical procedures, and its applications to music-making. The Introduction is a good starting point both for readers who are already familiar with the Technique and for those who are coming to it for the first time.
